All year round (adapted during the summer bathing season) Beach Horse Ride
Feel the salt breeze and the rhythm of hooves on the sand of Viana do Castelo's wild beaches.
Experiences
Minho springtime in all its splendour
Duration: 2h
Level: All levels
Season: April to June (peak season)
Group: max. 8 riders
If there’s one secret the locals like to keep to themselves, it’s this: in spring, the Minho blooms like nowhere else in Portugal. Yellow broom, purple bellflowers, poppies — the fields around Viana become a carpet of colour that lasts only a few short weeks.
This ride was designed for that magical window. We wind through the pine forest with its unmistakable scent of resin, emerge into flower fields where the horses wade through blossoms up to their girths, and return along country lanes lined with stone walls, past villages where time moves a little more slowly.
Just like all our rides: a horse chosen especially for you, a short briefing in the arena, a maximum group of 8 and certified instructors always close at hand. The pace is gentle — this is a ride for soaking it all in, taking photographs and simply breathing.
Between mid-April and early June, depending on the spring rains. May is almost always the perfect month.
The ride runs through open fields and pine forest, where the air circulates freely, but if your allergies are severe we recommend taking an antihistamine beforehand — or choosing our beach ride as an alternative.
The route is beautiful all year round — pine forest, green fields and villages — but the wildflowers are seasonal. Outside the blooming months, we suggest pairing it with the hills or the beach.
